Quality silver, the brand that counts.

The quality of silver and the quality of the silversmith.

Qualità Argento

Quality silver, all that glitters is not silver.

The quality of silver and the quality of the silversmith.

Quality silver, all that glitters is not silver.

For the production of jewels, silver must be linked to other metals, as it would be too ductile if used alone. The most used alloy is the so-called 925 silver, i.e. the one composed of 7.5% copper and consequently 92.5% silver.

In a period like this, giving a silver object as a gift can have a double meaning, in addition to the object itself, and the use that can be made of it, a handcrafted silver object is a value that is conserved over time. The more refined the manufacture and the care with which it has been preserved, the more the value rises.

But all that glitters is not silver. In fact, it is important to consider the stamps that must be reported on silver objects. The numbers reported in fact correspond to the different types of silver and therefore to the different quality.

Silver cannot be processed or sold without a special license issued by the Italian state.

Each manufacturer is assigned a brand bearing a five-pointed star, the manufacturer’s serial number and the initials of the province to which it belongs.

A Franco Lapini silver object from Florence will be marked with:

  • title 925 enclosed in an oval,
  • H five-pointed star,
  • 30 the serial number,
  • FI the abbreviation of the province to which it belongs.

So don’t be fooled by other brands:

  • Arg. 1000 – non-legal brand; galvanic silver metal.
  • Arg. 800 – non-legal brand; galvanic silver metal.
  • Silver Plated – Galvanic Silver Plated Copper, Zinc and Nickel Alloy Bilaminated very thin silver plate applied to a base metal base marked with an “R” in a square.
  • Sheffield – nickel plated and galvanically silver plated brass.
  • Silverplate – nickel-plated and galvanically silver-plated brass.

Thanks to the attention to detail and the professionalism and experience in the workmanship, Franco Lapini silver is of excellence among Italian silversmiths, first in the world for quality and quantity. Beware of imitations.
